June 2020
Dear Rams Family and Community Members,
Please allow me to take this opportunity to introduce myself. My name is Christopher Shilk and I am the new K4-12 Principal at the Turkeyfoot Valley School Area School District. It is with great enthusiasm that I look forward to working with the faculty, staff, students, and alumni to help honor the past achievements of the Turkeyfoot Valley Area School District as well as advance the academic success of its current and future students. It is with a great sense of pride that I look forward to working with all stakeholders to give our students the greatest opportunity to achieve their goals both academically as well as personally.
Personally, I grew up in a small rural community in Northcentral Pennsylvania in a town called Ridgway. I graduated from Ridgway Area School District in the year 2000. I went on to attend The Pennsylvania State University in which I graduated in 2005 with a bachelor’s of science in Kinesiology. From there I went on to pursue my teaching certificate from Edinboro University of Pennsylvania . I received my teaching certificate and master’s degree in educational leadership in 2007. In 2015, I received my Principal Letter of Eligibility from Edinboro University of Pennsylvania.
For the past 11 years I have worked as the Health and Physical Education Teacher at Mapletown Jr./Sr. High School. Mapletown is a small rural school district in Greene County Pennsylvania. I have worked with a multitude of students from many varying backgrounds that have shaped my philosophies on the best practices in helping students grow, both academically and as a well-rounded person, from rural settings.
I have a passion for education and what it offers to our students. One of my goals is to be visible throughout the building, conversing and listening to staff and students. As the newest member of our school community, I believe that my proactive and positive approach will continue to create a positive school climate throughout the building.
In closing, I am certain that preparing our students to be lifelong learners, successful citizens, and positive role models are goals we have for every child. I look forward to meeting and working with you as I assist our students in embracing the many challenges and opportunities they will face during their academic career.
Mr. Shilk
