Description

This is a semester long course that is designed to introduce 7th grade students to Agriculture Education and the FFA Organization. Students will be taking part in classroom and laboratory work in the areas of Plant/Animal Science and Agriculture Mechanics. In addition, students will be discovering these areas further on their own through the development of an individual SAE (supervised agricultural experience). Throughout the year students will be a member of the FFA Organization; taking part in activities to formalize themselves with the organization every Friday, take part in chapter, community, regional, and state events to develop their leadership skill and career skills.

It is the goal of the program to endow Learners with 21st century skills needed to achieve Success in their future endeavors, in the areas on agricultural conservation, education, management, and production.

 

Student’s overall grade for this course will be based on work in all three components that make up Agriculture Education: 30% SAE, 30% FFA, and 40% Classroom/laboratory instruction.

Animal Importance Project

 Assignment

            You should choose a species from the following list:

                        Cattle, Swine, Horses, Sheep, Chicken, or Rabbit

            Once you have chosen a species you will need to find the following information:

                         3 - Important dates in history pertaining to the species

                                                Domesticated?

                                                Came to the USA?

                        3 -Important Locations to the species

                                                Ex.- Leads the nation in the production of eggs -Iowa

                        3 -Important uses for the species

                                                Ex- Cattle – by-products -  makeup

                        3 to 5 - Important people involved with the species

                                                Beef Cattle – George Grant (imported Angus Cattle)

                        3 – “Species” specific terms ( i.e. “Bovine”, “ kindling”, “Farrowing” )

                        7 to 10 - Important/Interesting facts about the species

                                            “# of the species in the USA/World”

   Grading

                        Presentation/Information                                            50 pts.

                                     You will be given 2 in class days to compile your information into presentation form.  This presentation will be used to relay the information you have found.  Your presentation will be your Unit Exam Grade.  It will be important for you to present the material in a way that the class can take notes.

                          Creative (40 pts)

                           Informative (contains all the information asked for above) (50 pts.)

                           Cited sources/Bibliography page  (10 pts.)
